Famous scientists were invited to write for teens in LuckyBooks project

Brain & Ukraine, the first science-popular conference, became a partner in a charitable project for LuckyBooks – publishing popular science literature for teens. Co-founder of the conference, Miriam Dragina, a well-known journalist and popularizer of science in Ukraine, joined the LuckyBooks Experts’ Council. Experts choose topics, formats and authors of books. The published books will be distributed free of charge to children's libraries, primarily in eastern Ukraine.

The need for the creation of Ukrainian-language science-popular content for teens is of particular concern to me not only through professional activities - the popularization of science. But also through a personal: I have a daughter of 12 years old, and she adores science-popular books. Each read book evidently develops critical thinking. I feel, how sincerely she is fascinated by the universe and aspires to know it more. Such an expansion of the outlook promises great results in the future, as it is known: the countries that invest in science education for children eventually have the largest number of Nobel and Feldswian winners. And winners need humanity for a very clear goal - its saving, - says Miriam Dragina.

Учених зі світовим ім`ям запросили писати для підлітків в рамках благодійного проекту ЛакіБукс

The Brain & Ukraine Conference, held in Kyiv, brought together Ukrainian scientists in the field of natural sciences. Among the speakers, in particular, were Oleg Kryshtal - Director of the Institute of Physiology named after. O. Bogomolets and the Ukrainian Scientific Club, Alla Yemets - Doctor of Biological Sciences, professor at the Institute of Food Biotechnology and Genomics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Leonid Ponomarenko - a member of the working group that opened the strongest and most subtle material in the world - graphene (in 2010 a group of researchers received the Nobel Prize for opening). The special guest of the conference was Omar Khatamli, head of the NASA Innovation Department.

The purpose of the conference is to contribute to the construction of the ecosystem for the existence of knowledge-based projects, bringing together those who produce knowledge and those who need it. The founders of the conference invited scientists to promote science among children and to join the writing of books for teens as part of the charity project LuckyBooks.

We are grateful to our friends, because thanks to their support we have the opportunity to bring even more knowledge to our young readers. After all, cooperation with world-class scientists will greatly improve the content of books and expand their range of scientific fields. According to his own experience, after the book by Frank Wilcheck "Beauty Physics. Understanding the structure of nature ", I became convinced that literature, written by scientists, especially attracts attention and reproduces the feelings of the author to a scientific topic. The book ceases to be the only carrier of information, but turns into a true friend who cares excellently through the path of scientific progress with enthusiasm, talks about the scientific finds in our everyday lives and reproduces some simple but interesting intellectual experiments, - notes Anton Ivanov, project manager of IT- the company Lucky Labs, which, in partnership with the charity fund “I am Future of Ukraine”, which is the organizer of the project.

Currently, the LuckyBooks Experts’ Council includes musician Oleg Skrypka, president of the Association of Practicing Psychologists Eugen Miroshnichenko, scientist of the Space Research Institute Tetyana Kovalchuk-Skorokhod, public library reformer Veronica Selega, and activist of the Teenergizer Lada Nuzhnaya. The first book “Tesla and car on space energy” will be presented at the Forum of Publishers in Lviv on September 15th. At the same time, #whatismathematics of the famous children's writer Dmytro Kuzmenko and the first book on biotechnology for adolescents by Alina Stefan are being prepared.
