On December 14, the "Top BaraBuka-2017" winners of the annual children and adolescent literature rating were awarded in bookstore E in Kyiv. The experts selected 42 books, and the winners were determined in 10 nominations. LuckyBooks was invited to choose the best among non-fiction book.

In recent years, many educational books have been published in Ukraine. But there was almost no popular scientific literature for teenagers. The charity project LuckyBooks has focused on publishing and distributing books of this genre and has managed to do a lot in less than a year. The success of the project was noticed by Barabuka, and that is why LuckyBooks was entrusted to choose the best popular scientific book of 2017, – said Anna Tretyak, editor of "BaraBuka", portal of the Ukrainian children's book.

LuckyBooks’ special award "for the original approach" to the genre was received by the book "Loudly, quietly, in a whisper" by the creative workshop "Agrafka" published by the Publishing House of Old Lev.

"Loudly, quietly, in a whisper" is a book about the various sounds that surround us, the nature of their occurrence and the impact on everyday life, but the main content in it is not sound, or even text, but very unusual and vivid visualization. That is why we wanted this book to get the award," says Lucky Labs’ project manager Timur Savchuk, who handed the award." We are grateful to BaraBuka and everyone involved in the opportunity to join the top-ranking Ukrainian books for children and adolescents."

However, LuckyBooks will not stop on presenting the awards and has bought fifty copies of the winning book for the transfer to mostly children's homes in Russian-speaking southern regions of Ukraine. Both the first edition of our project "Tesla and car on space energy" and the book "Loudly, quietly, in a whisper" will be distributed in boarding schools of Odessa region, Mykolaiv region and Kherson region next week.

When the rating of domestic children’s literature only started in 2014 – it represented only 6 books. Now, experts say, both quantitative and qualitative progress is witnessed. However, there is still not enough non-fiction.

The issue of the lack of popular scientific literature in our publishing house was raised a year and half ago. We are trying to improve the situation, because there is demand and interest among readers. But most of such literature in Ukraine still remains to be translated. Ukrainian writers write very little on such a topic, – complains the head of the Kyiv office of the Publishing House of Old Lev Natalia Bilokon, – in 2016, we published only one such book. "Agrafka" picked up this wave and we got "Loudly, quietly, in a whisper". Next year we plan to publish a book about vision."

LuckyBooks, as always, encourages authors to engage in the development of a Ukrainian non-fiction for teens and to work together to develop a niche for children's educational literature.
