Of course, LuckyBooks could not stand apart from such an event. Together with the BaraBooka Internet portal held two workshops on sketching (fast drawing) and book illustrations. Illustrator Natalka Soiko became the coach of the workshops. At the moment she is working on illustrations for the book A Brief History of Technology: How to Understand One’s Own Gadget by Andrii Tuzhykov, which will be published this year within LuckyBooks project. The workshops` topics were chosen in line with the future publication.

Technologies are developing, neural networks are becoming cleverer, and robots are not fantastic fiction anymore. Developers often look for inspiration in the existing natural forms. At the sketching workshop we tried to turn into the creators of new technology and thought about the possible appearance of robots if we made them look similar to our favourite animals, says Natalka Soiko.

Unexpectedly, the number of the children who came to the workshop twice exceeded the planned one. The kids transformed their family pets into the supermodern robots and depicted them on paper. Almost everything could be seen there, for example, a horse exploring new planets, a cat helping with a homework, a dog protecting the owner with ray gun eyes, and even a meerkat able to read fairy tales.

The joint team of LuckyBooks and BaraBooka was already prepared for an excessive number of participants for the second workshop. For this reason, it was decided to hold two workshops instead of one to allow everyone interested to draw an illustration for his or her stories about the future. The children presented various ideas concerning their vision of the future of the humanity.

It is surprising for me that many people say scary things about the future. One may believe that our world will face disasters or even an attack by aliens, or the planet will be destroyed by a war. It seems to me that the future of the humanity will be favourable, the science will help us live together and develop, and we will find the common ground, says Dmytro, the sixth grader.

The positive vision of the planet's future connected extremely different ideas of the workshop participants.

I drew the city in which all roofs are covered with trees. This is the ecological city where people breathe free and take care of the nature, explains her picture Hanna, who studies in the seventh grade.

  1. The illustrations depict incredibly interesting ideas, for example, a planet that is divided into four regions according to seasons which never change, a world in which animals advanced their intelligence and reached the same level of development as people, robots that help people, intergalaсtic journeys and contacts with the extraterrestrial life.

I believe that encouraging children to think about the world in long-term outlook plays a very important role. We can understand the entire responsibility for our present actions only when we think about our future. Some of these children may become a genius inventor or a talented developer in the future, expresses her impressions after the workshops Natalka Soiko.

All the participant of the workshops were presented with badges decorated with her illustration for the future book, and the most active children received books from LuckyBooks: Tesla and the Car on Cosmic Energy by Luca Novelli, What If? by Randall Munroe, and George and the Unbreakable Code by Lucy and Stephen Hawking.

I am always eagerly awaiting the children's events because it is a great opportunity to observe these booklovers and find out whether they are ready to read books related to complicated topics. Natalka Soiko`s workshops showed that our readers are interested in technology, as they made up some special features of their robot animals and described the fantastic future in an inspired manner, sums up Anna Tretiak, the co-orginizer of the workshops and the chief editor of the BaraBooka Internet portal.
