How did video games evolve from the first ping-pong on the oscilloscope to modern virtual reality helmets? How one can explain to a child what bitcoin is and what the reasons for implanting nanorobots are? Andrii Tuzhykov, the young writer and prize winner of literature competitions, raised these questions before beginning the work on his book A Brief History of Technology: How to Understand One’s Own Gadget. The author has technical background, he received degrees in both theoretical physics and program engineering. He is constantly working in the digital realm so he is speaking about computer technology in the professional and thorough manner.

I strive to draw children’s attention to the principle of work of gadgets they use every day. It is important not only for the future development of the Ukrainian IT market but also for the maintenance of the educational level in our country, Andrii Tuzhykov says.

Every day we observe the dynamic development of technologies and the rapid changes in our world caused by them. Today’s news is talking about phone calls using 5G technology and installing the high speed Internet to the Moon and tomorrow it will become a reality. Modern teenagers follow the progress and they are familiar with up-to-date accessories. They wonder how tablet operates or what the difference between Android and IOS is. The book by Andriy Tuzhykov talks about many useful things from the world of technology in plain language and will be interesting for many Ukrainian schoolchildren, Sergii Khlivnenko , Project Manager from Lucky Labs , states with confidence.

The target audience also got the possibility to participate in creating the book and influence its final form. The students of Mariupol High School became the first reviewers of A Brief History of Technology. A group of active teenagers received a draft copy of the book and made a list of comments which were taken into account during the process of editing.

Seeing the world as it is viewed by a child is a gift and only limited number of adults is endowed with it. So receiving the feedback from the future audience while writing the book is extremely valuable for the author. Though it happens not so often. Basically teenagers are rather critical, so the fact that they liked the book really inspired me, the author comments.

Children asked to see the text in the finished version of the book to understand how their opinion was taken into consideration. They wouldn’t mind providing reviews for next books as well, says Lada Nuzhna, a member of the Expert’s Council from LuckyBooks and a coordinator of project called Teenagizer, who organized preliminary reading of the draft copy of the book for teenagers.

A Brief History of Technology: How to Understand One’s Own Gadget by Andrii Tuzhykov illustrated by Natalka Soiko will be published by Chorni Vivtsi Publishing House. Thousands of books as all publications within LuckyBooks project will be spread free among children libraries in the Eastern region and children cared by I am the Future of Ukraine Charitable Foundation around the country.
