Over 100 Libraries in the South of Ukraine Received the Book Written by the Hollywood Actor
93 libraries of Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions of Ukraine received for free the book by Mayim Bialik called Girling Up: How to Be Strong, Smart and Spectacular. The book by the doctor of neurobiology, who is more known as Amy Farrah Fowler from the TV series The Big Bang Theory, was published by Osnovy Publishing House for the charitable project LuckyBooks.
The new book immediately caught the attention of teenage girls. Our village is small and there are not many schoolchildren in each class. Therefore seven books are quite enough for all girls from the same class. This is so cool –for all to read the same book at the same time and then discuss it, - says the director of Pavlenkiv village library Tetiana Tkachenko.
Although the book is the encyclopedia for girls, it is extremely different from other publications of this type.
This book breaks stereotypes. The author tells a girl how to understand her own body, how to accept and love her girl nature in a simple and humorous manner. The author also gives example from her own life in order to explain how to turn from an awkward teenager into a young, beautiful and self confident woman who is responsible for her own decisions, solves any difficulties in her life bravely and is ready to conquer the whole world. This book will be really helpful for parents who don’t know how to talk with their own children about relationships, physiologic changes and own safety, - says Hanna Bakhman from the Pushkin children’s central library of Kramatorsk..
LuckyBooks project is in charge of restocking libraries with teenage nonfiction literature in the Eastern and Southern parts of Ukraine. The book Girling Up was presented at the 25th Book Forum in Lviv. The experts noted the non-mentor style in which it was written. Julia Konopelko, the librarian from Chepil village library, agrees with the experts’ opinion:
The interesting presentation of information and eternal questions, about which many generations were and still are conscious. It will be a great pleasure for girls who visit Chepil library to get acquainted with this book that is more like a conversation with the older friend.
Overall more than 350 copies of the book were transferred to libraries.
