Twenty five educational establishments for children in the Eastern part of Ukraine received books from LuckyBooks
Kramatorsk, Rubizhne, Sloviansk, Sievierodonetsk, Lysychansk, Kharkiv and dozen more cities and towns received the following books published within LuckyBooks project: George and the Unbreakable Code by Lucy and Stephen Hawking, What If? by Randall Munroe and education gamebook The Solar System by Jeremy Clays.
According to our data related to reading among children audience, modern fantasy and science fiction are both very popular. Unfortunately, the majority of books in the library stock are morally obsolescent and outworn, since 75% of the library stock was formed at the Soviet time. While the library stock is renewed only by 1,6% annually, says Larysa Mamedova, the director of the municipal institution The Centralized System of Public Libraries in Sloviansk.
Overall, about a thousand books of the charitable edition by LuckyBooks were sent to the East of Ukraine, where they were distributed among all education establishments.
These books will be useful for more complex study of the school program’s subjects as well as become a support for gifted children. They broaden teenagers’ minds, stimulate the learning process, help find right answers for extraordinary questions, states Larysa Filenko, the head of Lysychansk library for children №1.
The books are written in simple language easily understandable for children. Hence, they immediately became best-sellers among teens. The popular scientific literature for children is extremely important, as it can help create scientific outlook, understand natural linkages and consistent patterns, develop intellectual abilities. Moreover, encounter with such literature may become the first step on the way to the keen interest in the Big Science, adds Volodymyr Romaniuk, the deputy director of academic work at the sanatory and recreational center of the social rehabilitation Emerald City in Sviatohorsk.
Early in April LuckyBooks passed books to the central children library in Mariupol, where the lecture on Stephen Hawking, the author of one of books and the outstanding scientist, was held.
