LuckyBooks sent books to more than 100 children's institutions all over Ukraine
World of modern technologies described by Andriy Tuzhykov in his book A Brief History of Technologies, or How to Understand Your Gadget totally seized us. We realized that as many children as possible should read this book. This summer LuckyBooks encouraged 100 village libraries all over Ukraine to write to us and get new books. Each library got four books.
Now, libraries book stock mainly consist of fiction. But there is not much scientific popular literature. And it is so needed. Especially written version that is accessible and understandable for children. It’s important that book reveals topics that are of interest to modern children, says Olena Shumak from Ivanivka central library system.
We decided that the books should be given to rural libraries since they are most affected by outdated and non-revolving funds. The books were sent to libraries of Velyki Soronchyntsi, Buzhka, Mali Sady, Stryzhivka, Verbivka, Panky, Bilozerky, and many others. Neither did we forget about the Donbas. Luckybooks has been supplying this region with books for more than a year. Novopskov, Slavyansk, Kupyansk, Kramatorsk, Svyatogirsk, Kostyantynivka, Lysychansk, Severodonetsk, Rubizhne, and other cities got modern Ukrainian popular scientific literature.
Nowadays, sufficient book stock for libraries is vital, as today everything is changing rapidly in information society. It is important for reader to have the most up-to-date information. There is a growing tendency of change of modern children’s outlook. This is a qualitatively new generation. From the very first years of studying they are interested in scientific popular literature, they come up with ideas of their own startups, and they see the development of society more creatively. In a rural area, a library is perhaps the most important center of information and knowledge, adds Svitlana Patyaka, an employee of the branch library in the village of Gorodyshche.
Andiy Tuzhykov’s book was out this month in the publishing house Chorni Vivtsi. The book tells the reader about artificial intelligence, neural interfaces, bitcoins, intelligent home, and the Internet. In the book, the author tells about the Morse code and the radio waves, and how humanity invented them, whose ideas changed our lives and what awaits us in the future.
Such books enrich the knowledge about the world that surround us and help teenagers find their place in it. Children find modern literature interesting, because it is closest to their interests and preferences, says Valentyna Gerasymyak from the Kopachiv village library.
In general, the libraries of the most remote corners of Ukraine received more than 500 books. In August 2018, LuckyBooks held the lecture on the information society and demonstrated a mobile planetarium for the participants of the EuroCamp, where they also got to discover A Brief History of Technologies.
