The first book about Tesla for teenagers in Ukrainian language came out thanks to LuckyBooks!
Remote control, radio, electric car! Children who were interviewed by almost real Tesla at the LuckyBooks presentation, cried out the inventions of the genius scientist of the 20th century without even thinking! And this very hero is the one who the first edition of the project LuckyBooks devoted to, and it has already come out of print!
The book was presented at the Forum of Publishers and the Lviv International Book Festival, which took place on September 13-17 in Lviv. Today it is the largest book and literary event of Central and Eastern Europe. LuckyBooks’ presentation was held at the First Lviv Media Library – the first reformed library into the cultural and educational space according to the European model.
Since the presentation of LuckyBooks on the Book Arsenal, 4 months have passed, but we did not rest on summer holidays, and now we have something to show and tell you. While our books were being prepared - at all events we tried to get children interested in science and reading. The circle of friends of the project is constantly expanding and we are terribly happy not to be indifferent to the intellectual development of teenagers, - says the head of the charity fund "I am Future of Ukraine" Martha Levchenko.
A charity project focusing on publishing and distribution of popular science books in Ukraine started for the first time. And it is a long-term project. But I want to believe that we have managed to do the most important thing - to draw the attention of society to the lack of high-quality educative literature for teens. Well, the book for teens about Tesla was published in Ukrainian for the first time! Thanks to the collaboration of LuckyBooks and the publishing house K.I.S.
Tesla and car on space energy" – the most recent book on the work of the famous Italian author Luka Novelli, already the 17th in the series "Flash of Thought", - says the head of the publishing house Yuriy Marchenko. – Each book of a series is a life story of a scientist, told by him. These are 18-20 short chapters written simply and affordable. And yet - with humor and irony. The feature of the series is that it is actually a comics book. And they are painted by the author himself.
Tesla had a very developed sense of the innovator and the ability to embody his ideas in finished products - the features that are so necessary in our time! He is not an academic, but an engineer who saw human needs and was ready to meet them. His life is an example of willingness to take risks for the sake of a new. Not multiplying his own wealth, but conquering new projects. Interestingly he was a very media personality - he performed a lot of demonstrations of his inventions, was not afraid to shock the public, was eccentric in a good sense.
According to the editor of "Barabuka" - space of the Ukrainian children's book and LuckyBooks’ expert Anna Tretyak, nowadays the popularity of the biographical non-fiction is notable. After all, teenagers are looking for inspiration from strong personalities, which are revealed in difficult circumstances. At the same time, one more tendency was outlined - the purposeful study of one phenomenon, for example, a book on human blood translated in Ukraine. Children also want to learn more about themselves, about their own organism and its possibilities.
Teens – are most sensitive to progress and new technologies. They are interested in a world in which they will already act as full members of society, and if there are books that will help them understand these processes and engage in them, such literature will be in demand. Actually, demand is already there, there is no supply. Therefore, there is a lot of work for new authors within books for adolescent, - Anna Tretyak shares her observations.
LuckyBooks also presented the young author and new topic at Lviv Forum. Now there is hard work on the first book on biotechnology for teenagers "Summer in the length of DNA" by Alina Stefan. A certified doctor, a mother of three children and a book reviewer began to tell teenagers about a difficult subject in the adventure genre:
The most difficult thing is to adapt scientific information for children, to choose something important, because biotechnology is actually a vast industry today. These are new cures for incurable illnesses, and more environmentally-friendly ways to get energy without destroying natural resources, and the ability to restore the lives of animals that we seem to have lost forever due to negligent hosting on the planet. Here’s task: it is impossible to talk about biotechnology, without revealing the topic of the molecular structure of DNA, its replication and transcription so that it was not a textbook, but a more imaginative and interesting presentation. However, it is not desirable to simplify, because then you can lose the purpose of the book: to acquaint teens with the current state of scientific discoveries in biotechnology. Such as, for example, genome editing and CRISP / KAS9, gene therapy, DNA origami. And all this must understandable to children.
Currently, there is also #whatismathematics by the famous children's writer Dmitry Kuzmenko preparing for publication within LuckyBooks.
We also want to invite authors who write on natural sciences, scientists, who are ready to review our books and participate in educational events for teenagers, illustrators, translators and everyone who is not indifferent!
